What Keeps Me Apart from God-Part 1

As I work on this new space in my home to have a closer walk with God, the question arises what keeps us from a closer relationship with God? I know this is one of those questions we all ask.  Lee shared these verses and reasons with me and our children a while back and I think it’s worth sharing with the world.  The interpretations are my own but the verses and reasons are Lee’s.  This is a very deep topic so I am piecing it together in a two part series.

1. Compromise does not exist in a relationship with God.

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Luke 6:46

You cannot turn your life to the Lord and expect to keep living the same life.  God tells you

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come – 2 Corinthians 5:17

When you turn your life to God, your life changes.  You become a new person.  You leave your old world behind and begin living the new life God has promised you.  You follow God’s laws and emerse yourself in His word. You change your life to live God’s will for you.

Just as our children are a reflection of our parenting, we are a reflection of our Heavenly Father.  What we do, what we say, and how we act are a reflection of our belief system.   This means we live by the 10 commandments and all the instructions we are given in life’s instruction manual known as the Bible.  We quit drinking in excess, begin to take care of our body as God’s temple, and find refuge in knowing that we always have God on our side in everything we do.

It is a 100% commitment to the Lord, nothing less!

2.  Rebellion keeps us apart from God

But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear. Zechariah 7:11

And they have turned to Me the back, and not the face; though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction. Jeremiah 32:33

To rebel is to refuse to obey God’s laws.  To be closer to God you must not ignore His voice.  You have to let go of the rebellion and succumb to His will for you.  You have to quit trying to put God into your world and realize you are in God’s world.  Live by His rules, do as He says and life is peaceful.

Just as any parent child relationship, you will test the boundaries.  For those of us who are parents, we can understand the pain that is felt when our children rebel.  We know the turmoil it brings.  So why do that to your Heavenly Father?

You will find as you walk closer with God, your life actually becomes easier.  Life stops being so hard by living God’s will for your life.  Please know, we are not perfect.  There was only one perfect human and that was Jesus Christ.  You will slip and you will have moments of weakness.  Pray through those moments.  Temptation is hard but with God anything is possible.  You can and will overcome!

3.  Time and busy schedules keeps us from having a deeper relationship with God.

As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. Matthew 13:22

Surely a man goes about as a shadow! Surely for nothing they are in turmoil; man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather! Psalm 39:6

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.  And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,  not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:23-25

We must make the time for Him daily.  God gave us life. He is the great creator.  Just as we make time for our earthly parents, we must make time for our Heavenly Father.  Every morning for as long as I can remember my mother and grandmother have gone to God first thing in the morning.  If that meant they woke up at 4 am then so be it.  God was always first no matter what!!!  This was a great example to live by growing up and now I have a man who does the same thing.  I have not mastered this yet but I am trying.

For me, I had to break it down to smaller parts.  I had to start with the goal of church every Sunday.  Done!  Then I had to add life groups, comm groups, or whatever your church refers to them as….Done!  Then joining a women’s Bible study.  Done!  Now I’m working on joining the women’s ministry and helping them out slowly but surely.

It is through my church relationships I have met some of the most amazing people I know.  They have been great mentors in my life. By giving God the time He showed me what and who I needed in my life.

God is amazing!  He knows what you need but if you don’t give Him the time, he cannot share His plan with you.

My goal is to wake up at 5 AM every morning and meet with God first thing in the morning.

Compromise, Rebellion, and Time are just three of the obstacles to a closer walk with God.  Stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow to find out the last 4 of the 7 obstacles. Lee’s insight always helps me, hopefully, it helped you tonight as well.

I am blessed to have a wonderful man of God to help lead our family in our walk with God.

Goodnight and God Bless,

Art Therapy

“Moreover, there are many workmen with you, stonecutters and masons of stone and carpenters, and all men who are skillful in every kind of work. “Of the gold, the silver and the bronze and the iron there is no limit. Arise and work, and may the LORD be with you.” 1 Chronicles 22:15-16

Life is slowing down for me as I enter my last few days at my old job and begin the new one.  As I have more time, I am rekindling my love for arts n crafts and gardening.  I am loving myself again!  To do this I use to have my art journal that was just a diary of all things Me.  I had magazine pictures, quotes, pics of things I’d like to make, how to steps etc.

I have not done this in over 2 years and I miss it.  Here are some of the things I use to create from this time.   These  of my favorite pieces to create.

wpid-img_89801088760046.jpegAlthough you think creating a collage is “easy”, it isn’t. Getwpid-img_89810714135563.jpegting the color schemes together and decorating with 2 blank canvases, 2 unstained wooden adorations, and lots of scrapbook paper and embelishments was much harder than I imagined it to be in my head.  Time for both:  4 weeks.

This newpid-img_89651414723749.jpegxt piece I did for my oldest daugther’s boyfriend at the time.  These were the $2 crosses in the wood section at Wal-mart.  Because these are hand painted I could not guarantee the stains but I am pleased with how they turned out.  Time:  2-3 weeks

These were based on the following bible verse: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love 1 Corinthians 13:13

These next few pieces were created for FFA at my son’s school.  They took about 48 hours to create.

wpid-img_89868439248666.jpeg wpid-img_89666786051504.jpeg wpid-img_89687474645402.jpeg

These were more gifts for family and friends.  These took anywhere from 24 hours to 14 days.  Some the techniques used required plaster of paris.

wpid-img_89712458958257.jpegwpid-img_89729291982470.jpeg wpid-img_89786437281094.jpeg

These are just a few of my art pieces that aren’t necessarily the greatest of art pieces but they are my pieces and I am pleased with them.  I firmly believe all my creations were spirit filled.  God gave me what I feel are skills I need to create these things.

In 2015, I will rekindle this hobby and see what He brings to me to create. I am re-invoking my “All Things Me” journal again.  Tomorrow I will go out and buy markers, colored pencils, water pencils, and a beautiful journal-the expensive ones at Barnes and Noble.  I am worth that!  I will fill it with all the things that speak to me.  I will ask friends, neighbors, and strangers for magazines.  This is a great thing to get your kids doing as well.  We use to have family time doing this one task every Friday night.   My girls especially love doing this.  My son wasn’t thrilled with it but it has taught him how to brainstorm now for those bigger projects.  I will get a post up on the “how-to” of this soon.

What is God leading you to do in 2015?  Not sure?  Write for 30 minutes every morning when you wake up.  Here are the rules:

  • Set up a mom space in your home-it can be an office, it can be section of the living room, but whatever it is make it yours
  • Wake up before everyone else in your home
  • Set your timer for 30 minutes
  • Get your journal and pen out
  • Pray this simple prayer “God, please place Your will on my heart and help me see my purpose through Your eyes. Remove all negativity from my life for the next 30 minutes and bring me peace to see Your plan for me.  Bring me the words I need to begin developing Your plan for me. Amen”
  • Start writing
  • Don’t let the pen stop
  • Don’t think just write
  • Grammar does not count
  • Get it all out
  • Stop when it goes off no matter what
  • Do your devotionals and start your day

Goodnight and God Bless

The Characters in My Life Story

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15

Before I continue writing and referring to people and continually reminding you of who they are, I decided to do a quick reference page of the most important people in my life-my family.  They provide so much entertainment on a daily basis.  I am in constant laughter with them around.  There are times I can use a break from them but I could never live without them.  The love I receive is too precious, priceless, and irreplaceable.  They all make my bad day’s better and bring so much joy and happiness to my life. Without their love I cannot imagine having a blessed life.

At Last

21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs[a] and closed up the opening. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.

23 “At last!” the man exclaimed.

“This one is bone from my bone,
    and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’”

                                                                   Genesis 2:21-23 NLT

Today I started Reading Through the Word with Wendy Pope.  In our daily readings we journal our take away, something old and something new.  My something new that stood out to me today was reading Genesis 2:23 “At Last” the man exclaimed. This one sentence struck me.  All the years I have read this book and Adam’s excitement to have a companion was overlooked.  This tells me that God created man to rely on us as women. After all, he did take us from the man’s rib. (Genesis 2:21-23)  We are an extenstion-bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh-of the man God has intended for us.

Men want us in their lives and live for us to be with them. God created them that way! However, God also created them to be the leader in the relationship. This is where we as a modern day woman struggle.  Not unbelievable since we are now single mothers, business women, and live on our own.  However, He gave man the power and control not us. He tells us this here in Genesis, he tells us this in Ephesians and it is a repeated theme in the Bible. The man is the spiritual head of the relationship. God wants us as women, even today, to submit to them and let them lead.

Easy task?  Not really.  When you are truly submissive you put someone else’s needs above yours.  For us a mother, we are submissive to our children with no problem.  But not our husbands or significant other.  This is what causes so much strife in our lives.  We as a modern day woman place our children and our careers above all else. But in doing so, we are living against God’s will.  God tell us in Ephesians 5;22-23 we must submit to our husbands.  He does not say your children, your job, your friends.  He says, YOUR HUSBAND!!!

As I look back on my own relationships I know submission was a problem for me for a long time. It was the downfall of every relationship I had before Lee came into my life. I would not give up that control. I would not give up putting my children, family and friends first.  Why would I?

At the time, I was not aware that God created one man for me.  I was not aware that God not only created this man but he made him have a burning desire for me!  Think about that ladies–God created this man who will say “AT LAST!” just for you.  WOW!  How good does that make you feel?  I see some mustard seeds being replanted in a lot of lives right now.

Now as I look back on my past relationships I know that was not what God had intended for me. I know because the men I was with I was not equally yoked with much less did we live with God at the center of our lives.  Instead I lived for the “next big thing” that came along.  Never feeling that WOW that God had waiting for me.  I did not feel it because that was not the man God intended for me and I forced something against God’s will it did not work.

These verses in 2:21-23 for me shows me that God creates one woman for one man and that man is waiting for us to find him. However we are always looking for the beautiful and overlook what God has given us. That man over there is more handsome, that man has more money, that one is better than this one.  Because of those things we pursue what is bright and shiny instead of what God has intended for us. It’s our typical “the grass is greener” phenomenon we fall into repeatedly in today’s society. However, if we look at what God gives us and has placed in our path we see the true beauty of a relationship between a man and a woman as God intended.

Every morning I wake and say WOW!  I have been given the gift of God’s love not only through my children but through a man who truly loves me and adores me as God loves his church.  Yesterday when I picked up Lee this was our convo:

Me:  How are you?

Lee:  I am a blessed man honey

Me:  Blessed?

Lee:  Yes, I am with you now!!!

As simple as that convo is, it means everything to me.  I get convos and texts like this all day long every day.  Lee constantly shows me that kind of love and I truly feel as though I am an extension of him.  I feel him saying “AT LAST” every time he sees me. Never a doubt in my mind that I have made the right choice.  However, had I made some judgements and not forgiven him for past mistakes life would be different.  I would have looked for the next shiny thing to come along and I would be missing out on what is the most amazing person God put on this earth just for me.

This is why I am blessed.

Goodnight and God Bless!
